Happy November!

Winter is coming and we are only 21 days away from Opening Day of the ski resort here in Steamboat Springs. We have had a beautiful fall so far, but snow and cold weather are in the forecast and with that being said, we would like to offer some tips for getting your garage ready for the winter.

Winter tends to be one of the hardest times of the year for your home and there is a lot to think about when getting your home ready for the colder temperatures. Besides doing regular maintenance on your water and heating systems, it’s also a good idea to check your appliances yearly before the cold weather hits.

One part of the home that tends to get overlooked is the garage.

Here are a few items to remember to check in order to winterize this important space of your home.

  • Apply Weather Strips in order to seal the garage door and keep the cold out.
  • Insulate your pipes to reduce the risk of them freezing or bursting.
  • Drain the fuel in any of the lawn care equipment that you won’t be using in the winter, such as your lawn mower. This will also ensure that your machines stay in tip-top shape.
  • Check your snowblower before the first snow falls. This is especially important if you live in a place that gets lots of snow in the winter, just like we do here in Steamboat.
  • Get organized and keep your tools, snowblower, salt, and de-icer etc. within arms reach to save you time when you need to use any of these items. We are all about convenience when it’s freezing outside and all you want to do it finish shoveling the driveway and get inside to warm up.

There you have it! A short list of things you can do to prepare your garage for the winter season, and make your life a little easier.

If you are in town this winter be sure to give us a call if you have any other questions regarding buying or selling your home, or if you want to learn more about the Steamboat real estate market. We are always happy to chat and answer any questions!

Warm Regards,

Kevin and Randall
